the ones with the nforce chipsets? not sure tbh, i like to stick with abit, they seem to be the most reliable/user friendly mobo's out there and also usually thrash the other boards in tests :D

I thought the KG7-Raid could take the 'new cpu's ??

It kinda said that a BIOS update could be had with would enable it to take any new chipset ??

WAS I CRUELLY LIED TO ?!?!?

montie 08-12-2002 10:38

probably not.. bios upgrade is how to get the kx7 to take new chips. but apparently upgrading the bios is monster hard

Accura 08-12-2002 12:59

i have the Abit KG7 whithout the raid and it cant take the new CPUs you will need the BIOS update to use the XP CPUs but i'm 90% sure it cant run the new AMD 2GHz CPU :(

DarK_AnGeL^ 08-12-2002 13:17

well thats fine then, I just get a BIOS update as I already knew you had to.:D

Accura 08-12-2002 14:30

well make sure you check the FSB on the CPU or it cant work no matter what update you get

montie 08-12-2002 16:27

my 133 board run my 100 cpu.. 100boards wont run 133 afaik

Accura 08-12-2002 17:29

yup and the new 333FSBs :(

Zak 13-12-2002 23:02

My computer is sadly getting more and more out of date....im in desperate need of an upgrade - but im crap at saving money.... I need decent uk sites that will take monthly payments on parts :-//

montie 14-12-2002 14:24

the 3 places i would use are overclockers.co.uk, komplett.co.uk and scan.co.uk. 1 to avoid is aria.co.uk

Accura 14-12-2002 15:33

i vouch for scan.co.uk i have spent over £1000 on PC parts with them, they are great :) BTW dont by IBM HDDs they suck. www.dabs.com are also pretty good.

Zak 15-12-2002 12:14

Do any of these sites take monthly payments though? :p

I hate saving up, it takes me ages, If i have £100 I spend it, if i have £1000 i spend it, if i have £10,000 i'll spend it.....i just can't stop.

Accura 15-12-2002 13:04

lol scan.co.uk does but you have to spend over £500 i think

I upgraded from a tnt2 ultra to the GF4 TI4600. I have noticed a nice improvement on my box (gaming box) Its a IBM x335 dual 2.4 GHZ Xeon with 4GB of ddr ram.

So, you are saying you ran a dual 2.5GHZ/4GB ram machine with an TNT2 ULTRA?

Somehow I think you set your upgrading priorities wrong :)

Accura 05-01-2003 20:51

lol i have to agree

Vimeous 06-01-2003 01:16

I know this may seem like a stupid question but is has to asked...

Exactly how many games use that second processor?

Or does the term "Gaming Box" cover all things server, CAD, and arms-race control master commander. All at once of course.

montie 06-01-2003 12:39

2 cpu's are only really usefull in gaming when you run a server, but you also need at least 1meg connection to make this worthwhile

Def2K 07-01-2003 00:20

some games actually are capable of using "multithreading" (2 procs) but the supply is uberly limited.

its usually something for geeks.

Some servers also use it. But then again, you'd need a very though line to actually make it worthwhile.

DB servers use it a lot. they need to perform lots of calculations etc  for normal usage its not worth it as not all programs use the second processor. Dunno if windows 2 proc version performs load balancing automatically for all progs

anyways to get back on topic: Geforce FX here i come :)

i think at the end of january we can expect a version of creative in US

wonder how long it takes till its available here tho

Def2K 09-01-2003 13:58

It will probably be available here pretty quickly. Unlike software, hardware tends to come a lot quicker to europe aswell.

Thats my experience about it, at least :)

Well, it is my impression that most games are either released in the US or Asia before tehy finally come to europe.

Usually games are here like 1-3 months later. Which is pretty sucky. Only way to buy em are online shops/import shops. The "normal" way requires some more patience, sadly enough :(

montie 09-01-2003 15:50

games idd.. always out in usa first.. although i think jap usually gets it before them

Depends where they atre developped I guess :D

montie 09-01-2003 16:48

idd.. where the fk is my fifth star ffs

Def2K 09-01-2003 18:50

Didn't know you had 4?

Perhaps the postcount for the stars is once again raised. I don't know and since we can't really check the count at all I can't say I have a clue either :)

razor 10-01-2003 07:15

Dont get me started on how long i had to wait for DDR to come out in Europe when i read about it months before on Tomshardware. Perhaps its changed now coz all we l33t europeans want the newest stuff as quickly as possible but it wasnt the case +/- 1,5 year ago

Lukeh 12-01-2003 18:31

I cant be bothered with gettin all the quotes but i can remember some stuff :D.

The Albatron Turbos are great cards and can often clock up to 320/730 which is real fast :D. (I've seen someone get 14,300 3dmarks with this card)

The next Nvidia Nforce2 chipsets are faster and much better for overclocking. They also have Dual DDR which means if you have 2 sticks of DDR Ram its a lot faster :D. The new BIOS' on the Nforce 2 chipsets unlocks the Tbred chips, which is cool if your an overclocker :D.
