GF4 Ti 4600

I payed £194 for my Abit 128mb GF4 TI4600 and i have to say i dont feel that its worth the money. I had a 32mb TNT pro before that and yeah its a little faster but i dont feel its really worth the money. Does anyone agree with me or am i just blind?

Accura 01-12-2002 00:17

hmmmm

well someone must have something to say on the matter..........

Grendel 01-12-2002 01:21

There arent games out yet that can really show the potential of the gf4 ti4600 or the radeon 9700 for that matter.

I have a gf4 ti4600 myself and happy with it.

ramp 01-12-2002 01:33

Upgraded from a tnt2 ultra to a gf 4200 ti.
Havent really noticed much of a difference either, except abit of a speed increase. My bottleneck is mostlikely my processor tho.

Emohawk 01-12-2002 02:22

You wanna test it out, test it out with Unreal Tournament 2003...
That bitch game is wicked but I have to run it @ 800x600 (normal graphics across the board) and it's still a bit jerky ;(
That's on a GeForce 3 Ti200 (128MB)...

It's gonna get overclocked tommorow to see if I can get anything more from it...

Accura 01-12-2002 03:43

test

yes i've tested it with UT2003 it runs fine (good sign i guess) but i'd expected to see a big change and difference in gaming apart from speed. As Grendel said maybe the games just dont support that kind of power. What speed is your processor Rampage?

steam 01-12-2002 13:22

a big badass gfx card wont solve all your problems ..

the system needs to fit together .. for this card you need at least a proc speed of 1 GHz and above also you need a huge amount of fast ram (512mb) and finally you need a board that can supply your card with the amount of data it needs for full performance ( AGP port speed and other things )

I for myself did upgrade dfrom a geforce 2 mx to a gf4 Ti 4200 on my system and it resulted in a huge performance boost but that is mainly cause the old gfx card was way to weak for the rest of the syxstem ..

Accura 01-12-2002 14:17

hmmm

well i'm running a AMD 1.4 Ghz system with only 256mb of DDR RAM. I also have an Abit motherboard as well as my abit gf4 ti4600, so i was under the impression these would work well together.

i do admit i can run any game on the maxium settings and the speed is fantasic, however maybe the MX or lower TI cards could do the same for less money. ???

accura, the 4200ti would have done the same job for less money as its easily clockable to 4600ti speeds.. but the 4600's have a lot of tweaking to be done to get the full potential.. put your old car in the machine and run 3dmark2k then run it with the 4600, im sure youll be impressed then ;)

Carpeia 04-12-2002 18:16

I got a GF 4 TI 4400 by ASUS.. 128 mb ram..

Id say that the 4400 cards are the one u get most for the money... the price has gone low now.. and with this card, it follows a tweaking tool, so u can clock it up to a 4600 easy. U do need to have a low temperature in ur machine tho.

afaik u cant clock up the 4200 cards to 4600.

I got a amd xp 2100, 512mb 2700 ram..

im very happy :D

]x[ 04-12-2002 18:18

I will keep me fingerz silent with me 8mb vid card \0/

~ Why does waiting for your new pc always feels so time delaying. Almost have the cash for me new one. Then i can normally game again :)

I think the RAM is the problem here. I have the same card (altho the 8X AGP) version and I notice a HUGE diffrence in speed, framerate and overall performance.

Need to add that I upgraded the while computer aswell. XP2000 +768 mb ddr ram.

Just wait a bit till the games get more advanced then they are now and you will soon see the other cards fail. and upgrade to atleast 512mb ram :P

Couldn't agree more. I'm running gf2MX400 64Mb cards at home and work (1.2 and 1.4GHz Athlons). The gfx cards are now out-dated and at the limit of their performance but the 512Mb RAM at home and 1Gb at work make the biggest performance impact.
Even so I can only run UT2003 at 800x600x32.
TBH it's down to what games you play, UT2003 needs gfx and RAM in balance, bf1942 needs less graphics and maybe more RAM depending on the number of players on-screen.

Accura your machine should run rings round either of mine if you have 512Mb RAM in it :)

]x[ 05-12-2002 22:19

I got an athlon XP2000 768 mb ddr/333 vid card with 128 mb/ddr and a lot of other useless speed crap :)

Accura 06-12-2002 11:13

hmmm what speed is your RAM ?

montie 06-12-2002 18:35

corsair xms 3000, tweaked to limits.. 3dmark of 12800

Accura 07-12-2002 12:55

ahhh corsair the expensive RAM, having never used corsair i dont know if it makes a difference. I hear it's faster then normal RAM is there any truth in this?

montie 07-12-2002 14:04

i bought the samsung original 2700, and had to get rid of it.. was poo. i wouldnt say my corsair 3000 was noticably faster. but alot more tweakable which then made it alot faster. the corsair will let you overclock more. as the fsb goes up the speed of the ram increases alot. this is only noticable on benchmarks really though

my samsung wouldnt even run 166 @ aggressive timings

my corsair does 24/7

DarK_AnGeL^ 07-12-2002 18:52

I have a 1.4 gig athlon, Abit KGR-RAID, 512 megs DDR RAM and I upgraded from a Radeon VE 64 meg DDR to a AOpen Geforce 4 ti4200 and it made loads of difference except to games like CS and things but with UT2K3 it still really tests our my system. Not sure what I actually need to upgrade next I got my new 19 inhc monitor, new keyboard and mouse, only thing left to alter is the cpu and I don't know how high I want to go with that. Any suggestions, Is it worth me ditching this old school amd athlon and going for an athlon XP 1.6 gig or 1.8 or something ?

montie 07-12-2002 19:41

my system runs any game out there.. xp2000, abit kx7 these 2 would cost you about 130-150 GBP
those are the only bits i would change of your setup

DarK_AnGeL^ 07-12-2002 21:59

no way am I going to get a new motherboard though fs

Accura 07-12-2002 23:59

hehe :) get one that can take the new CPUs

montie 08-12-2002 00:44

the abit kx7 can with a bios flash or go for the at7 max 2 thingy they rock

Accura 08-12-2002 03:07

are the new nvidia motherboards any good? does anyone have one?
