Dear Legion

I, even tho being one of the younger members in our community, think that my feelings towards you doesn’t differs much from your typical legionnaire.

Now, I have not been with you from the start, but I must have been 15’ish when I joined your ranks in planetarion, very much deserving it after, if I might so bold as to say so, a boring month of pure abuse in the care of your littlebrother, iliad. Of course, you all remember iliad as the newbies who fought the battles you couldn’t be arsed to fight, and perhaps that was exactly what we were, but I remember the feeling present there from the start. You were… something else, like, say, how glam rock was entirely different from the Beatles, but created with the same instruments; A guitar, drums, a bass, a few selected people and a small army ready to follow them.

Before I ended up with iliad, I had been a part of quite a few other alliances, and they all had what you had, even though they had none of that funky legion-feel. They had a irc channel, they had a decent site with a forum, they had plenty of members, they had power hungry admins, and, eh, etc. etc.. Just like you. But still, you were different. You somehow became a part of my life, perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I, amazingly enough, hooked up with iliad being 15’ish of age, and thus already sliding down the slippery slide of teenaging towards the rock hard bottom of adolescences.
Somewhere along that way, I think you catched us. The lot of us – When everything else was utterly serious, not working out and, not to mention, simply boring. Anyhow, we turned to you and your people for a hazy escape, a quick laugh, a piece of advice or entertainment (and by this I of course mean winning).

Surely it was the people about you that made you what you are today, but why those people choose to come together in you, hey, who can tell ? It’s probably some odd psychological stunt, I mean, you attract a certain kind of people who, mostly, simply just falls into place, like 100 clones of Norm from ‘Cheers’, in a oversized pub, everyone having their usual seat.

Anyway, I just wanted you to know that whatever magic that made us all end up here, hopefully will keep us here…. I remember that day when it was officially announced that you quit Planetarion, and I was afraid that that, as they say, would be that. Luckily, I was proven wrong.

“May the wind always be in your back,
and the sun upon your face,
and may the winds of destiny,
carry you aloft to dance amongst the stars”

eh

Please forgive my poorly written romantic mombo-jumbo, those 4 lines above from ‘Blow’ sums my original and now lost point up nicely.
