SWG Release Date Delay

Well I knew that an April 15 release date was too good to be true.

If you haven't already heard SWG is getting delayed again, and probably will be a few more months before the release. Here is the official statement:

"Star Wars Galaxies is now entering the final phase of development, and everyone at LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment is pleased with the game's progress since the beta test program was initiated. We've received a good deal of constructive feedback and many positive suggestions that, if executed, will genuinely enhance gameplay for the hundreds of thousands of players who comprise the community.
To deliver the best possible massively multiplayer experience and ensure stability and breadth of content, LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment will delay the game's April 15 launch. This will enable us to invest more time into the beta program, and to solicit additional feedback from the tremendous fan base Star Wars Galaxies has already developed.

"In addition, we will not open phase three of the beta program until we feel the game is ready for a wider audience, which we anticipate will be within the next few weeks. A new release date for Star Wars Galaxies will be announced shortly after the beginning of beta three.

"We are sincerely grateful to the Star Wars Galaxies community for their tremendous support. We respectfully ask for their continued understanding and patience during these final few months leading up to the launch of what we believe will be one of the best MMOs to date."

LucasArts Producer

Im quite optimistic for a May release now as the general feeling i got from the devs was that they were "almost" ready to start phase 3 but are testing, weeding out major/minor bugs in the game systems.

Phase 3 will have 50k people enough to fill 14 and a bit servers if they are 3500 players, so really its nothing more than load testing, balancing and minor bugs.

Radium: i am _very_ sure that the servers will hold much more then 3500. This world is _much_ bigger then daoc, and 3500 only would be "lost in space". I guess it will be more like 8k-12k per server, maybe even more.

PS: anyone has any data how much ppl there are on each AO Server?

The Devs said that they won’t be showing server numbers, but they will probably have some way to “recommend” lower population servers (and possibly starting towns) to new users to help spread the load.

Apparently they dropped the idea of showing server numbers because they didn't want their competitors to have those numbers.

They also said that because all games reach a certain maximum level at some point and then eventually start losing members, that they didn't want to lose even more people by giving the impression that the server was on a downward trend.

I'm still looking for more information regarding your question and will post it if I can find any.

3000 only stuck, because some SOE bigwig spilled the number. That aplied to the players they could host somewhen in early beta 2, which is absolutely no indictaion of how many players the final game supports.
They will only test ONE server, and they need the 50K people to get that one machine filled up with the 10k players, i would suspect as the final limit per server, at once.

2 Weeks?

2 Weeks till what? You know something I don't?

I'm guessing the release date probably won't be until this June-July.

The Devs said that they intend to "ramp up" to 50,000 beta testers by early May, which means that the release won't be until June at the earliest.
